Looking back at 2015...

Dear Friends of Momenta Art,

Thank you for your participation and continued support that made this year a success! We are very proud to have continued to present exhibitions and projects that critically examine and engage with the times we live in today.

As the end of the year approaches, we are asking you to consider renewing your commitment to Momenta Art by making a tax-deductible donation before Dec 31st as part of our annual Year-End campaign.

Since its original establishment by a group of five artists in 1986, Momenta Art has primarily been run by artists, and has played a decisive role in creating an energetic, artist-driven forum. Recently, we have seen a number of smaller arts organizations closing their doors due to economic stagnation and shifts in institutional funding. It has been a difficult time for Momenta Art as well, yet we remain committed to our artistic community and audience, and are thrilled about our upcoming programming.

Momenta Art is driven by a strong belief that art-making and art-viewing are powerful tools for learning about the world we live in and ourselves, and transforming them in the process. Through the presentation of art projects that examine and engage with urgent contemporary issues through aesthetically sophisticated forms, we hope to contribute to creating a more just society. We remain acutely aware that an organization like Momenta Art is uncommon and essential to the realization of a place where visionary ideas can be realized.

We ask you to consider contributing what you can to Momenta Art. Currently, we are preparing for our 30th year anniversary with an incredible lineup of projects awaiting. We hope that you can support us at this critical juncture.

Have a Happy Holiday! We look forward to seeing you at our future exhibitions and projects.

Best wishes,

Momenta Team

Learn more about our upcoming project: Summer Arts Program

Momenta Art’s Summer Arts Program is a six-week-long workshop for NYC youth in collaboration with the New York City Housing Authority. Guided by Momenta Art’s educators, students create original performance works, culminating in a public presentation. Our program introduces students to contemporary art practice and interdisciplinary critical issues, encouraging them to initiate and continue their own critical inquiry through artmaking and artviewing.

Please view this footage is from a pilot program that we conducted during July – August 2015.

Though often not considering art as a potential future profession, the students continue to surprise us with their intelligent understanding of what art is and their passion for making art. In 2015, the program was not funded, and we conducted a short pilot program. In 2016, the program was partially funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, and we are thrilled to implement our program in its full length. Please support us to help fill our current funding gap!
